Ideas for Christmas presents

Ideas for kids

Choosing Christmas presents for your kids is quite easy, they will have given you lots of ideas. Typically younger kids love opening lots of presents regardless of what they are so try picking lots of little presents that are cheap and that will keep them very occupied like

Then a couple of bigger presents and a main gift (if there is one). Of course it depends on your budget how much you can afford to spend. If you need a little extra spending money at christmas then check the extra money for christmas page for some helpful tips.

Presents for friends and family

Buying gifts for friends and family can be really easy or really difficult depending on the subject. If someone has a hobby then it may seem obvious that something related is a great idea but if they are really into their hobby they may well have the item already and because you are not into the hobby you might be poorly positioned to choose an appropriate gift. A hobby related gift voucher might be a better idea. On the whole I think gift vouchers are a cop out but if they are related to a subject the recipient is passionate about it shows you put some thought in and didn't want to risk getting the wrong thing which I think is fine.

Socks, Jumpers, slippers and any everyday clothing are not good presents, they are not fun, they are really boring to receive. Christmas should be fun not mundane, give them a wide berth unless they are really funny socks!

Wine, Champagne and Port make great gifts that will be appreciated by anyone who likes a fine wine and the budget can be very flexible from £5 to £500. Personally I would avoid all those obligatory wine and cheese gift sets that you see in every supermarket at this time of year, they are just a way of selling cheap wine and cheese at an over inflated price. Food that needs to be refrigerated is not a good idea as you will often travel for a few hours to visit someone or they will to visit you, plus the guest may feel awkward asking to put his or her present in your fridge and if they do they'll probably forget to take it home! Luxury food gifts which do not need refrigerating are a great idea for anyone who loves their food and that's most of us.

Presents for your partner

Buying for your loved one should be fairly easy if you put a little thought into it. Adults like kids like to receive more than 1 present so try and buy a few things you know they will like.
